Chris Bender, DNAP, CRNA, APRN is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and director of anesthesia services at Vance Thompson Vision in Sioux Falls, SD. Chris began working as a CRNA at Sanford medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD in 2005. In 2013 Chris joined Vance Thompson Vision as the primary anesthesia provider for the Vance Thompson Vision Surgery Center.
Chris received his master of science in nurse anesthesiology in 2005 from Mount Marty University in Yankton, SD and his doctor of nurse anesthesia practice in 2019 from Mount Marty University.
Chris is a co-inventor of the MKO melt and has personally administered it to over 25,000 patients as of August 2020 and continues to use it in his daily practice. Chris has authored several articles that have been published in Ocular Surgery news, Ophthalmic ASC, and Ophthalmology management. Chris is a co-author of research that was presented at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons conference in 2019.
Chris is a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology, the South Dakota Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and the Ophthalmic Anesthesia Society.
Chris is involved in a number of capacities with the Ophthalmic Anesthesia Society including serving on the annual scientific meeting planning committee 2018 & 2019, serving on the board of directors since 2016, and serving on the executive committee as treasurer since 2017.
